Gifts in a Jar

Our wonderful friend Lyndsey Owen has included all the recipes for the gifts in a jar we offered with Super Saturday. Here they are and the web sites I found for the Chocolate chip and M&M cookies in a jar. All recipes listed here are to be packed into a Quart sized jar.



Chocolate Peanut Butter Candy
(Layer in this order)
2/3 c graham cracker crumbs
1 ¾ c powdered sugar
1/3 c packed brown sugar
1 ¾ c chocolate chips in Ziploc bag



1. Remove bag of chocolate chips from jar. Set aside.
2. Empty jar into large bowl. Blend well.
3. Add: ¾ stick of butter or margarine, melted
1 1/3 c peanut butter
4. Mix until well blended. Press firmly into 9” x 13” sprayed pan.
5.Place chocolate chips in a microwave safe dish. Microwave on high 30 seconds, then stir well. Microwave at 15 second intervals, stirring well each time, until completely melted. Spread this chocolate over peanut butter layer.
6. Place in fridge for an hour to set. Cut into squares – if it has been in the fridge, let it set out to soften before cutting.
Store in fridge.
Makes 48 pieces.





Peppermint Stick Cocoa
(Layer in this order)
Powdered Milk 1 cup
Unsweetened Cocoa Powder 1 cup
Granulated Sugar 1 cup

Salt 1 teaspoon
Mini Chocolate Chips ½ cup
Crushed Peppermint Candy ½ cup


*Mix contents in a large bowl. For each serving, place 1/3 cup cocoa mix in a mug and stir in 1 cup of hot water



Classic Cocoa
(Layer in this order)
Granulated Sugar 1 cup
Unsweetened Cocoa Powder 1 cup
Powdered Milk 1 cup
Salt 1 teaspoon
Mini Chocolate Chips ½ cup
Mini Marshmallows ½ cup

*Mix contents in a large bowl. For each serving, place 1/3 cup of cocoa mix in a mug and stir in 1 cup of hot water.





Instant Baked Potato Soup Mix in a Jar

1 box sour cream and chive potatoes
Chive Sauce packet from potatoes
1 packet dry cheese sauce mix from boxed macaroni and cheese
1 tablespoon bacon bits

Remove packet of potatoes from box and use a roller or your fist to break most of the dry slices up into smaller pieces.

Combine all ingredients and put into a jar or decorative container. Attach the following instructions on a gift tag:

Instant Baked Potato Soup

Combine contents of jar with 2 cups milk and 1 cup water.

Bring to a boil, cover, reduce heat and simmer 8 to 10 minutes.





Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Jar

2 cups flour

1 tsp salt

1 tsp baking soda

3/4 cup brown sugar

3/4 cup white sugar

Chocolate chips



Filling the Jar:Use a small funnel to layer the ingredients in a quart size canning jar in the order listed. Use enough chocolate chips so the jar is full to the top. Pack down all ingredients.



Instructions for recipient (write or print on card & attach to jar)

1 cup butter or margarine softened

1 egg, slightly beaten

1 tsp. vanilla



Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Thoroughly blend together the butter or margarine, the egg, and the vanilla. Pour jar of cookie mix into this mixture. Mix until completely blended. Drop teaspoons full of batter about 2 inches apart on cookie sheet. Bake for 8 - 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
